Quickly though, that blueprint is ditched in favor of a story where anyone, including our heroes, who by all plot armor accounts can't secretly be bigots or homophobes, are in danger. That’s a hefty payload of .45 ACP, for those who prefer that round for self-defense. It’s longer, taller and heavier than the FN 509 Tactical in the same family, and about the same dimensions as a standard 1911 in everything except width, where it’s wider and weight, where it’s lighter. On top of belt affixing options, the Appendix Holster Builder with Polymer Claw – Inside The Waistband also features the polymer claw to give the gun’s grip just a bit more concealability. I’ve always liked claws, especially since I carry around a little extra guttural girth, making me appreciate the extra help to make the gun disappear under my shirt or jacket. The claw’s two screws also serve as the holster’s retention adjustment system.

Obviously, new color options are available, evident in the flat-dark earth model we have here today. And, the new High Power is a half-pound heavier than the model it replaces, a hefty 40 ounces over the original’s 32. That extra heft, though, translates into a pistol that is supremely easy to shoot—it combines the weight of a full-size Government 1911 with an excellent single-action trigger, but with 18 rounds onboard. Since the Reflex is brand new, and one of the very common concerns when it comes to new releases is having holsters available, FN has taken care of it.

It starts with a classic Kydex,  taco-style shell that, during my testing, kept its shape perfectly and held the gun tightly enough that I felt confident carrying it all day long. Not once did I worry about the gun popping out as I went about my day. The biggest complaint about Kydex holsters is they can be uncomfortable because the stuff plastic presses against flesh. While you would certainly expect the Reflex to be ideal for inside-the-waistband carry, its small size makes outside-the-waistband carry equally plausible. To that end, we’ve added the ANR Design Standard Outside Waistband holster to this kit to show how easily the Reflex can be concealed, even when carried outside the waistband. The sights have been updated to ledge-style to allow one-hand racking of the slide in emergency situations.
